1999

The final year of preparation for the Great Jubilee was a busy one for the FYA. We had two profound recollections with Fr. Dennis Paez, a dynamic Salesian priest, at the Philippine Pastoral Center. Both days were filled with many insights that have since served as guiding principles in our lives.

The music ministry was especially active, under the leadership of our new director, Hector Martinez. Through his guidance, the choir made tremendous strides in 1999. We sang for several important masses including the 25th anniversary mass of Ugnayan (the Filipino group at St. Francis of Assisi Church), the celebration of the Feast of Our Mother of Perpetual Help at Holy Name Church and St. Catherine of Siena Church, the Dedication Mass for the Philippine Pastoral Center and the Jubilee Mass for Fr Emil Santos, SDB at Mary, Help of Christians. The highlight of the year was getting the opportunity to sing for the Filipino Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in September. Under the direction of Hector Martinez and accompanied at the keyboard by Bernadette Anterola, the choir sang magnificently. Two sopranos in the choir, Melissa Mallari and Jennifer Mercado, also sang solo passages during the Gloria, Offertory and Communion motet.
